Tile Repair in Hartford County, CT

Saving the floor or wall you already have — cracked tiles swapped out, loose ones re-set, and tired grout brought back.

Overview

Professional Tile Repair You Can Trust

Most tile doesn't need replacing. A few cracked pieces, a patch that sounds hollow when you tap it, grout that has gone dark and crumbly along a shower corner — those are repairs, and they cost a fraction of a new installation.

Tico's handles tile repair as its own job: lifting damaged tiles without wrecking the ones beside them, re-bedding hollow spots, cutting out failed grout and replacing it, and re-caulking the joints where grout was never the right material in the first place. If a repair genuinely isn't worth doing, we'll tell you — but that's the exception.

Common problems we solve

  • A handful of cracked or chipped tiles in an otherwise good floor
  • Tiles that sound hollow or shift slightly when you step on them
  • Grout that's stained, crumbling or missing along shower and tub joints
  • Corner joints that keep cracking no matter how often they're regrouted
Why It Matters

The Tico's Approach to Tile Repair

Neighbours Left Intact

Damaged tiles cut out carefully so the surrounding field isn't damaged in the process.

Grout Cut Out, Not Skimmed

Failed grout removed to depth and replaced, rather than a thin layer smeared over the top.

Hollow Tiles Re-Bedded

Loose tiles lifted and set properly, so they stop cracking underfoot.

The Right Material in Joints

Flexible caulk in corners and changes of plane, where rigid grout always cracks.

FAQ

Tile Repair Questions, Answered

Can you match my existing tile?

Often, if you have spares from the original installation — worth checking the basement or garage first. Without spares we look for the closest available match, and sometimes we can source tile discreetly from a closet or under an appliance to use in the visible area.

Why does the grout in my shower corners keep cracking?

Because grout is rigid and corners move. Any inside corner or change of plane should be flexible caulk, not grout. We replace those joints with the right material so they stop failing.

Is repair or replacement the better value?

If the substrate is sound and the damage is localised, repair is far cheaper. If tiles are lifting across large areas, the problem is usually underneath, and replacement is the honest answer.
